Information Technology Specialist


SEARHC was established in 1975 under the provisions of the Indian Self-Determination Act as a non-profit health consortium which serves the health interests of the residents of Southeast Alaska. The intent of this legislation was to have Indian Health Service programs and facilities turned over to tribal management. Our contracting with IHS began in 1976 when we took over management of the Community Health Aides Program. In 1982, we took over operation of the IHS Juneau clinic, now the Ethel Lund Medical Center, and took over operation of Sitka’s Mt. Edgecumbe Hospital in 1986. We are one of the oldest and largest Native-run health organizations in the nation.

Position Summary

The purpose of this position is to provide customer service and support for desktop systems and peripherals. This includes installing, diagnosing, repairing, maintaining and upgrading desktop software, hardware and peripheral equipment. Responsible for assisting with Help Desk activities by receiving, prioritizing, documenting and actively resolving end user help requests.


  • Install, configure, test, maintain, monitor, troubleshoot and upgrade end user desktop software, hardware and peripheral equipment.
  • Receive, respond to and document incoming Help Desk calls and email.
  • Provide support and management for video conference activities.
  • Assist users with application setup, maintenance, troubleshooting and basic training.
  • Assist with system and network administration activities.

Position Complexities

This is a challenging, fast paced and rewarding job which entails extensive work with new technology, computer systems and the staff that use them. Immediate, careful attention to various systems and multi-tasking is required. Projects and service requests must be completed within a timely manner. At times must lift heavy objects up to 50 pounds. This position will maintain hardware including PCs, printers, phones, audio, video and network equipment. Occasional overtime, night time, weekend hours and rural travel (2-3 times per year) required.

Position Qualifications


  • High school diploma or equivalent


  • 2 years’ experience installing, diagnosing, repairing, maintaining and upgrading MS Operating Systems, PC software, hardware and peripheral equipment in a network environment

License and Certifications

  • Valid Alaska driver’s license
  • A+, Microsoft, Network+, or other similar technical certification
