Description
Position Summary:
 
The Behavioral Health Prevention (BHP) Specialist functions within the department of Behavioral Health to provide prevention efforts within their community to lessen identified Behavioral Health issues such as substance abuse, juvenile delinquency, and suicide.
 
Baseline Qualification Requirements:                                                                                      
 
GED or High School Diploma
 
Some college or training/certification in human services or chemical dependency desirable
           
Two years of college or three years experience providing at least one of the following: substance abuse prevention or treatment services, health promotion services, school services, human services, community organization and development. May be cumulative.
 
One year working directly with youth and adults; may be volunteer and/ or work experience.  May be cumulative.
 
One year of work experience in providing at least one of the following: behavioral health, substance abuse prevention or treatment services, health promotion services, school services, community organization and development. May be cumulative.
 
Six months working with Alaska Native/ American Indian cultures, preferably in rural communities.
 
Prevention Specialist Certification may be required in the future.
 
Valid driver’s license preferred
 
Other Comments:
 
This position requires frequent work in the evenings or weekends to accommodate activities.
